Our stories
Alex
Originally working in publishing in Oxford, Alex moved to China in 2010 to work for a US media company.
Over six thousand fans in five months and still going
From Wales in the UK, Alex started out working in publishing in Oxford - actually the rather less inspiring Milton Park business estate, but let’s round-up and say Oxford.
He moved to China in 2010 to do a project for an American media company, and never left. From 2011, he worked as a consultant with the Chongqing Investment Promotion Association, focusing on working with international companies investing in Chongqing.
In 2011, he founded the annual Invest Chongqing book, becoming the first non-Chinese editor in Chongqing since the 1940s, a moniker he just thought of when writing the draft of this paragraph, and has not actually fact-checked. But it feels true, so let’s go with it.
The aim of Invest Chongqing was to provide clear, open and honest information for potential investors, at a time when English information about Chongqing was still scarce and often impenetrable.
Alex got the train at this station for years before it became China influencer fodder, do not get him started on this topic unless you want a bitter rant thinly disguising the regret that he wasn't the first to see the social media potential in this
From 2013, Alex also worked with a range of international companies to facilitate and streamline investment in China via his UK-based consultancy and for Frankfurt-based Value Management GmbH.
He is now based between Chongqing and rural Wales, which allows him to focus on promoting Welsh-Chongqing friendship. This mainly consists of explaining to the people of Wales and Chongqing what the other one is, where it is, and why he thinks they should be friends.
Both Alex and Jimmy are seeing rapid growth in their Chinese social media accounts
Jimmy
After growing up in Chongqing, Jimmy moved to Australia for university and begin his career.
Over ten thousand fans on Douyin and growing
A native of Chongqing, Jimmy moved down-under at 18, going to university at Newcastle, New South Wales before moving to Sydney and then Canberra.
Working for JLL for several years in Australia, Jimmy has solid project management skills, as well as a creative drive and sound knowledge of social media engagement. He would also like us to point out that he did not write that part and that he is actually quit self-effacing, again, not his words.
Jimmy is now based between Australia, China and the UK (as in he travels between them, he’s not based in the middle of the Indian Ocean)
shut up, he thinks he’s witty
Alex and Jimmy are primary points of contact for all projects. You can get in touch now, they’re always happy to listen and advise what they can do.
